It is well known that awards and recognition products motivate employees. From a company's point of view, the real purpose of giving an award is not just to honor achievement. The real purpose is to make an employee feel good about what they've done, so they'll do more of it. They also will inspire others to higher levels of performance. These days, a pat on the back just isn't enough.

How Awards Motivate And Retain Employees

In a recent survey by American Express Incentives, "68% of employed adult Americans surveyed said an awards incentive program would cause them to set and then work towards job-related goals. 70% of employees who planned to make job related resolutions say those goals include increasing workplace productivity, while 52% want to improve their attitudes. 69% of employees setting goals say an ongoing company sponsored incentive program would keep them motivated throughout the year". In a survey conducted by Ameritech, 97% of the interviewed employees felt that it is important to receive recognition. 90% of them felt that recognition motivated them to improve their job performance. In a recent Gallup Survey, the findings indicated that "praise and recognition are essential building blocks of a great workplace".
